ADWORKS Solar Installation Master Guide
International Edition | 12V • 24V • 48V | Offline Training Reference

Safety first

This guide is educational and does not authorize unqualified electrical work. PV, batteries, roofs and utility connections can cause death, fire or serious injury. Final design, wiring, protection, permits, settings, testing and energization must follow the exact equipment manuals, current local electrical codes and regulations, the authority having jurisdiction, the utility/interconnection provider, and qualified/licensed professionals.

How to use this guide

Study the modules in order. Use the comparison table to select an architecture, then complete the checklists before commissioning. This guide intentionally avoids universal cable, breaker and charge-voltage values because those must be engineered for the actual equipment and installation.

12V, 24V and 48V comparison

DC busTypical useApprox. current at 1 kW*Key consideration
12VSmall lighting, charging and compact backup83 AVery high current; short runs and modest inverter power
24VMedium backup, cabins and moderate loads42 ALower current than 12V; verify 24V equipment ecosystem
48V / 51.2VResidential hybrid and larger backup21 ACommon for higher power; higher shock/arc energy and strict BMS compatibility

*Idealized P/V calculation before efficiency and surge allowances. Not a conductor or protection sizing table.

Knowledge check

1. Why does a 12V system carry more current than a 48V system at the same power?
Because current is approximately power divided by voltage; lower voltage requires higher current.
2. Can any two lithium batteries be connected in series?
No. Series operation must be explicitly permitted by the battery manufacturer and compatible with the BMS/inverter.
3. What two PV string checks are essential?
Cold-corrected maximum Voc below the absolute PV input limit, and operating Vmp inside the MPPT range; current limits must also be verified.
4. Can a grid-tied system export before utility approval?
No. Follow the distribution utility application, inspection, metering and authorization process.
5. Is one breaker and cable size correct for every 5 kW inverter?
No. Sizing depends on voltage, current, duty, conductor/terminal ratings, installation method, temperature, code and the exact manual.

Regional compliance references

Use the latest electrical code, renewable-energy rules, permitting requirements, utility/interconnection procedures, and manufacturer documentation applicable to the project location.

Requirements vary by country, state/province, municipality, and utility. Always verify the authority having jurisdiction before final design or installation.
